20 Places to Visit in Cheltenham and Around

I will be doing more indepth reviews of some of the following over the next few months:

1) Pittville Park
New playground built. Lake with ducks, ice cream!

2) Cheltenham Lido
Open from March to October. Warm kids pool along with main pool. Nice café.

3) Cheltenham Museum
Workshops but also a great old-fashioned museum bit (walk through the furniture bit) It also has a kid’s activity area half-way round. It’s also near the library and some nice cafes!

4) Cheltenham Steam Train Rides
A volunteer operated heritage railway in Gloucestershire offering a round trip of over 26 miles.

5) Pittville Leisure Centre
Kids activities, swimming, classes and good prices. Nice café.

6) Cotswold Farm Park
The famous farmer: Adam Henson own/runs it. Lovely place with animals that you can feed and pet, farm talks and demos, tractor ride, mini tractors, cafes, soft play and inflatables.

7) Cotswold Wildlife Park
Nicer than a ‘zoo’ somehow but still a zoo! Lots of space to walk around.

8) Eastnor Castle
It has a maze and adventure playground. Lots of green space and interesting history in the castle.

9) Sudeley Castle
It has a great playground/mini castle. Large picnic/play area and of course, interesting castle to walk around.

10) Forest of Dean
Lots of walks, climbing wall and picnic/barbeque areas that you can book.

11) Puzzlewood
Other-worldly place where part of Star Wars was filmed. Wonderful to get lost in and imagine you’re in a Star Wars film!

12) Westonbirt Arboretum
Old classic (or do I just remember this from my childhood?) a small woodland bit to walk around and a bigger one. Activities all year round.

13) Train ride to Weston-Super-Mare
Direct train there and back once a day. Great way to combine a train ride and a visit to the seaside. (Can get busy on the way back though.)

14) Bowling at The Brewery
Loud but very fun for children for obvious reasons.

15) Crazy Golf at The Brewery
Not as loud as bowling and very fun for children for obvious reasons.

16) Hobbycraft at Gallagher Retail Park.
Full of craft stuff and it has kids craft workshops and events.

17) Soft Play at the Play Farm and Magicland
Can be nice if quiet and near unbearable if busy (kids love it when both!)

18) Tintern Abbey
Interesting historic ruins near Chepstow. Ice cream shops nearby if kids aren’t interested.

19) Bourton-on-the-Water
Lovely place. River, Railway Museum, Model Village, Motor Museum, Ice Cream, Chips, Bakeries.

20) All Things Wild!
Wonderfully bizarre place with so much to see and do. Part zoo/park soft play/part farm/part dinosaur world. Kids love it!
