Cheltenham Lido opened today and is one of the few lidos in the UK that is heated and kept at an average temp of 26c in the main pool and 30c in the children’s pool.
There are few better feelings (in my opinion!) than going for a swim in the lido rain or shine. Of course, we would all probably prefer a warm sunny day to enjoy the pool and grounds, but the lido still has plenty to offer on any day.
Along with the pools, Cheltenham Lido has a sauna which is open during the colder months, play equipment and a café selling hot and cold food. Some of the lanes are reserved for swimming on most days and it has a variety of sporting and entertainment events going on throughout the season until 12th October.
Run by a charitable trust, the lido was opened in 1935 but in the 80s and 90s it came under threat of closure. A charitable trust took over operational control in 1996 and, after raising thousands of pounds, in 2007, a new refurbished lido was born.
Today, Cheltenham Lido is considered to be one of the best in the country and we are lucky to have it on our doorstep.
