Organic Farm Stay in West Wales

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at a B&B farm in West Wales. Nantgwynfaen featured in my earlier blog post, ‘Ten great quiet places to stay with kids in the South West.’ When we get away, we like to enjoy some peace and quiet but equally, we don’t want to have to worry if our child is noisy! It’s a difficult balance and hard to find the right places.

The organic farm has got it right. It’s surrounded by lush countryside and there are various places to stay on the farm, including in the farmhouse, camping and a ‘Glamavan.’ We stayed in Ty Mamgu – Grandma’s Cottage which was away from everything and had its own garden and is fully self-contained. The kitchen had a great amount of equipment. You could even bake a cake with all the stuff available!

Talking of food, they serve organic local produce for breakfast including free-range eggs, own recipe sausages, dry cured bacon, homemade bread and marmalade, with local dairy produce. It also has its own little organic shop.

Despite the name, Grandma’s Cottage was not stuffy at all. It was lovely and clean with fresh cotton sheets, white fluffy towels and lavender smelling creams and soaps in the bathroom. It sleeps two but we took Ed’s small mattress and he slept on the floor.

When we arrived, we had some bread waiting for us (they make it if you ask in advance) and some eggs from the hens on the farm. While there, you could stay in the cottage which is full of books, DVDs, toys and even a piano or you can explore the farm which has a characterful games room including Ping-Pong table and rocking horse. There are also lots of long and short walks around the farm.

You might also find the best Wendy House ever (probably!) in the grounds where children can play at having afternoon tea and even sweep it out with a tiny broom – so cute!

Nearby is a great gastro pub and there are loads of attractions within short driving distances, including all the beaches. We went to Llangranog where we saw dolphins swimming in Cardigan Bay. There are also boat trips from New Quay. We visited the wonderful Castle Carrag Cennen on the way back and there are many other castles to see nearby.

This was an unsponsored review and completely placeswithed’s views! The farm has very reasonable rates and offers great value for money. We very much hope to return one day! High recommended.

  1. Sounds wonderful and you were lucky with the weather this weekend. Some great ideas for making our wendy house into a play area for kids, the photo looks so cute. So must look out for some kids kitchen furniture.
